A shared second prize was awarded to ZDA – Zoboki Architect Studio at the Shenzhen Performing Arts Facility design commission, where the Hungarian firm was selected from an international league of star architects including Zaha Hadid Architects and the final winner Ennead Architects of New York.

ZDA’s concept was rated as exceptional by an international panel of star architects, highlighting the building’s elaborate functionality and state-of-the-art theater technology. Details of the Hungarian plan will be utilized during the facility’s construction.

Marking the city’s 40th anniversary, the project’s significance is marked by the line-up of renowned architects – including Heatherwick Studio, Christian de Portzamparc, and Henning Larsen Architects – commissioned, while applicants to the open call included Zaha Hadid and Sou Fujimoto, as well as Ennead Architects of New York.

Headlined as a Sea Gateway, the imposing and futuristic Hungarian design concept evoked the city of Shenzhen’s morphology, the mountains surrounding the 19-million-resident metropolis, and  commemorates the greatest classics.
