Between April 1-9, 2025 the European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO) will embark on its ‘Inspiring the Future’ Spring Tour: a remarkable collaboration as part of the cultural programme of the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Conducted by Susanna Mälkki and with soloists Heidi Stober (soprano) and Małgorzata Walewska (mezzo-soprano), the tour’s musical heart will be Gustav Mahler’s monumental Symphony No. 2 in C Minor: ‘Resurrection’, with performances in Lusławice and Warsaw.

A Polish Presidency Programme
The EUYO represents the best of Europe: its highest artistic quality and – driving that excellence – its cooperation across borders. The Orchestra is honoured to be invited to perform in the Polish Presidency of the Council of the EU, coordinated by the National Centre for Culture Poland. The concerts are held under the auspices of the National Centre for Culture Poland and the Krzysztof Penderecki European Centre for Music, with the Ludwig van Beethoven Association as Executive Producer. The Polish Presidency has two cultural priorities: supporting young creators and artists as the future of European culture, and revisiting audiovisual legal frameworks in light of today’s rapidly-changing media environments.
At the heart of the national cultural programme is solidarity: a culture community linking generations, environments, and countries in international and intergenerational cooperation and innovation. The EUYO Spring Tour is therefore also an exceptional collaboration, with our musicians of the EUYO joining forces with the Jerzy Semkow Polish Sinfonia Iuventus Orchestra and the Polish National Youth Choir. In total, over 200 young performers from nations throughout Europe will share the stage.
The cultural program is built on dialogue, diversity, and collective efforts for the future. At its core are young artists, whose daily work ensures genuine intercultural exchange, freedom of speech, and expression. This is the foundation of European identity, civic awareness, and a carrier of fundamental democratic values.
Tour Residency in an Outstanding National Institution of Culture
The Spring 2025 rehearsal residency marks a joyful return for the Orchestra to Lusławice’s Krzysztof Penderecki European Centre for Music, National Institution of Culture and outstanding music education centre in the heart of the Małopolska countryside. Lusławice was Krzysztof Penderecki’s summer sanctuary, its tranquility ideal for creative work. Music and nature were his greatest passions, and he viewed trees as a powerful symbol of art, zakorzenione – w ziemi i w niebie (‘rooted in the earth and sky’).
The Centre itself is a testament to Penderecki’s vision: a place where young musicians could grow artistically, guided by their mentors. Its space is as beautiful as it is functional – sustainable, acoustically and technically outstanding, peaceful yet vibrant, youthful yet masterful.
