MIRROR, the Éva Duda Company’s 10th anniversary production, will be performed in New York at the end of May. The Company is travelling to the United States at the invitation of Hungary L!ve Festival, where it will perform for New York audiences at HERE Arts Center, one of the city’s emblematic cultural spaces.
MIRROR is one of the company’s purest productions, in which the stage is like a battlefield where everyone has to fight for their roles within the community. Intense choreographies are woven into a dynamic chain, with dynamic and acrobatic movement elements, in Duda’s own creative style.
Powerful, agile figures glide through the space, releasing extraordinary energies, one moment flying through the air, the next rolling and sliding on the ground, pushing themselves beyond their limits, in an excited, chased atmosphere, which turns into chasing and pushing each other away, then fighting each other and finally supporting each other, until they find pleasure in each other. Dark and extreme emotions follow each other, raw energies, full of dominance, power and eroticism.
After a decade of work, the Éva Duda Company has become one of the leading independent dance companies in Hungary. In their artistic work, they aim to create a closer link between more familiar and more progressive theatrical genres. This bridge provides an opportunity to appreciate offbeat, bold and complex dance art performances. Their mission is to bring contemporary art, and especially contemporary dance, to new audiences and social strata. Over the past 10 years, approximately 50,000 spectators or participants from 15 countries have seen their various programmes.
