The Huelgas Ensemble, presented by the Alamire Foundation and the Flemish AMUZ Festival, co-organised by Papageno, gave a concert in the Matthias Church on 27 June to mark the handover of the EU Presidency.
The Belgian ensemble has been one of the most acclaimed ensembles specialising in the performance of polyphonic music from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance for over fifty years.
They have performed in internationally renowned venues, including the Lincoln Center (New York), Cité de la Musique (Paris), Berliner Philharmonie, Royal Albert Hall (BBC Proms, London), Wiener Konzerthaus, Concertgebouw (Amsterdam) and BOZAR (Brussels).

The ensemble is also regularly featured at significant early music festivals, where it often performs in its ‘natural environment’ of centuries-old chapels, churches, and monasteries. In this way, it builds an interdisciplinary bridge between polyphonic music and architecture. Many of their numerous recordings have won prestigious awards, including the 2023 Gramophone and the 2022 Opus Klassik.
