Prior to the awards ceremony ten selected American jewelry designers committed to driving inclusivity within the industry took part in a four month long programme.
Throughout this they received mentoring from Tiffany’s design team, took part in workshops introducing to them the history, mission as well as gemstones of the legendary jewelry house. They also received an in-depth introduction of Landmark, Tiffany’s recently redesigned flagship store on 5th Avenue in New York.

The selection committee included members of the jewelry house’s creative leadership, founders of the Council of Fashion Designers as well as jewelry experts from Sotheby’s, among others.
Jameel Mohammed, the winner, the founder of afrofuturist brand KHIRY, gave up his studies in political science for design in 2016. His pieces, also available on luxury portals, were previously featured by Vogue and New York Times, and adorned icons like Michelle Obama or Serena Willams.
