Founder of the Belgian music magazine Crescendo in 1993 with Bernadette Beyne (+2018), Michelle Debra was the magazine’s managing director. In fact, her roles were many and varied: member of the editorial board, editorial secretary, sales manager, meticulous proofreader, responsible for the magazine’s news section.
Michelle Debra has been a member of the jury of the International Classical Music Awards and its vice-president from 2011 to 2024. President Remy Franck says: „Michelle was a member of the jury for the ICMA and long before that for the Cannes Classical Awards and the MIDEM Classical Awards. She has always contributed constructively to the work of the jury and her contribution has been characterised not only by rigour and depth, but also by an unwavering commitment to integrity. In recognition of these merits, she was elected Vice-President. She was a beloved friend to us all, whose kindness and generosity will always be remembered.
Michelle Debra was also the coordinator of the IMEP Reporters, an innovative and unique programme she initiated with Bernadette Beyne and Guido Jardon, director of the IMEP, to enable young students in higher music education to familiarise themselves with criticism and discover other aspects of the professional world.
