World premiere of the new album of the National Forum of Music took place on January 7, 2022. The recording was made in the Main Hall of the National Forum of Music in Wrocław.
On November 19, 2021, the new album of the National Forum of Music with the music of Paweł Mykietyn had its Polish premiere. The CD is the second monographic album of the NFM Wroclaw Philharmonic devoted to this composer.
The album includes the following works: Concerto No. 2 for Violoncello and Symphony Orchestra and Hommage à Oskar Dawicki for symphony orchestra, recorded together with the cellist Marcin Zdunik and conducted by Bassem Akiki and Benjamin Shwartz.
Paweł Mykietyn was born on 20 May 1971, in Oława, Poland. He studied at the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in the class of Prof Włodzimierz Kotoński (graduated in 1997). He took part in the International Summer Courses for Young Composers in Kazimierz nad Wisłą (1991, 1992, 1993) and Gaudeamus Music Week in Amsterdam (1992). He participated in lectures by such composers as Witold Lutosławski, Krzysztof Penderecki, Henryk Mikołaj Górecki, Magnus Lindberg, Louis Andriessen, Francoise Bernard Mache, and Michael Nymann.
At the age of 22, Mykietyn made his debut with the work „La Strada” at the „Warsaw Autumn” festival. In 1995, the piece „3 for 13”, commissioned by Polish Radio, won first place at the UNESCO International Composers’ Rostrum in Paris in the category of young composers. A year later, the piece „Epifora”, commissioned by the Polish Radio Experimental Studio, won the first prize at the 4th UNESCO International Rostrum of Electroacoustic Music in Amsterdam, again in the category of young composers.
Paweł Mykietyn has composed for such soloists as Elżbieta Chojnacka, Ewa Pobłocka, and Andrzej Bauer. He has collaborated with prominent conductors, including Jean-Paul Dessy, Jacek Kaspszyk, Jerzy Maksymiuk, Diego Masson, Wojciech Michniewski, and Reinbert de Leeuw. He has written music for the Warsaw Autumn festival, the Grand Theatre-National Opera, and for the Belcea Quartet, de Ereprijs, Icebreaker, and Kronos Quartet.
In January 2000, he received the „Polityka Passport” award. In the same month, his composition „3 for 13” was presented at the Midem Classique in Cannes. He was the first laureate of the Public Media Award „OPUS” (2008).
In 2011, he was awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta, and a year later he was awarded the prestigious Prix France Musique Sacem for the music to the film „Essential Killing” by Jerzy Skolimowski.
Paweł Mykietyn was the founder and clarinetist of the Nonstrom ensemble active from 1990-2005, specializing in contemporary music.
Starting in 1996, he composed music for most of the theatre productions directed by Krzysztof Warlikowski. Since 2008, he has been running the stage for music at Nowy Teatr in Warsaw. He is the author of music to numerous feature films, for which he has been awarded, among others, at the Gdynia Film Festival.
