Being able to listen to works by women composers is one of the wishes of those who want to play them, programme them or simply discover them.
The too small number of recordings makes this difficult. This is why Claire Bodin and Jérôme Gay decided to create this label, an indispensable tool to complement what the Présence Compositrices Promotion and Resource Centre already provides.
The mission of the Présence Compositrices label will thus be to give a world premiere to previously unreleased works, to allow quality works that have already been recorded to benefit from another version, to record monographs of women composers of the past and to give a first recording to some of today’s women composers.
The first recording is devoted to the composer Marie Jaëll. Pianist Celia Oneto Bensaid performs the Piano Pieces after a reading by Dante.
Celia Oneto Bensaid explains: „As a solo pianist, I often envy singers their large cycles that tell a story and propose a narrative evolution over several short pieces. Marie Jaëll offers me a dream opportunity, a Dantesque and initiatory journey through a grandiose cycle for solo piano.
