The formation of pianist Csabay Domonkos and cellist Hartmann Domonkos, Duo Domo, won the of the Birmingham International Piano Chamber Music Festival.
Only six chamber formations could start the live rounds of the prestigious competition, three of which made it to the finals on 16 November. In addition to Csabay Domonkos and Hartmann Domonkos, the Trio Havisham and the Astatine Trio were given the opportunity in the finale.
In the final, Duo Domo played Debussy’s Cello Sonata, a piece by Rita Strohl and Thomas Adès: Lieux Retrouvés.
As a result of the competition with the first prize of 2,500 pounds Hartmann Domonkos and Csabay Domonkos will also be able to perform at London’s Wigmore Hall and make a record for Resonus Classics.
The jury of the competition included artists such as Adam Binks, Prach Boondiskulchok, Lucy Gould, Gemma Rosefield, John Thwaites and Daniel Tong.
In 2016, young pianist Domonkos Csabay won first prize at the Amy Brant International Piano Competition in Birmingham. Previously, he won the piano accompaniment competition at the Wales International Piano Festival, and in 2013 he was the winner of the Leó Weiner Chamber Music Competition in Budapest with violinist Bálint Kruppa. In 2016, he reached the semi-finals of the Ferenc Liszt International Piano Competition in Budapest, and in 2021 he marched to the semi-finals.
Young cellist, Domonkos Hartmann took part in many domestic and international courses under the leadership of Camille Thomas, Henry Demarquette, Ditta Rohmann, István Varga, László Fenyő, István Várdai, Stephan Koncz, and the Kelemen Quartett. In January 2018, he won first place at the Jan Vychytil International Violin Competition, and in 2021 he won the Dávid Popper Cello Competition. He is a student of Ditta Rohmann at the Budapest Academy of Music and István Várdai at the Vienna Academy of Music.
In the formation Duo Domo, the two young artists started working together in 2021.
