The Balaton Film Music Festival will be held for the first time in Balatonalmádi between 25 and 27 August. The programme is organised by the Balatonalmádi Golden Bridge Civic Association, supported by Veszprém-Balaton 2023 Zrt., and the Municipality of Balatonalmádi. The chief patron of the festival is Dr. Tibor Navracsics, Minister of Regional Development.
Alíz Markovits, Managing Director of Veszprém-Balaton Zrt. spoke at the press conference of the event: „The Balaton Film Music Festival is doubly important for the European Capital of Culture (ECoC) programme. Our aim is for each of the eleven district centres that have joined the ECoC programme to have a large-scale iconic programme that would not have been possible without the support of the ECoC. The Film Music Festival is just like that: we hope that the people of Balatonalmádi will look back on this year’s start with pleasure, long after it has passed. In addition, Balatonalmádi is very important for us from a filmmakers’ point of view: the town has been a key location for the most important film programme of the ECoC, the Hungarian Motion Picture Festival, for years.”
Péter Fabó, Mayor of Balatonalmádi, highlighted: „The town of Balatonalmádi builds not only on tranquillity, but also on families, communities, and quality programmes. Our summer programmes in 2023 will appeal to both younger and older generations and we aim to provide quality, cultural and entertaining programmes. I believe it is important that in the long run the city’s programmes reach out to both local communities and holidaymakers.”
Gábor Czompó, member of the board of the Balatonalmádi Golden Bridge Association, which organised the event, said: „The Balaton Film Music Festival is a celebration of the meeting of imagination and music, where the best film music will be performed. Everyone is welcome to our free and ticketed Balatonalmádi venues for a special programme where experiences, emotions, tears and laughter, joys and sorrows, experienced in front of the big screen, are induced again, and where masterpieces by outstanding composers are performed by talented musicians.”
During the three days of the Balaton Film Music Festival, almost twenty acts will perform tunes familiar from the cinema screen on three stages. You can hear iconic tunes from classic film scores, but also discover the musical peculiarities of the latest films. Among the performers will be the Danubia Orchestra Óbuda, the Hungarian Air Force Band, the Mendelssohn Chamber Orchestra of Veszprém, Swing ‘a la Django and Nikoletta Szőke, as well as Péter Müller Sziámi. The Danubia Orchestra will be conducted by a real star guest, Marcello Rota, with Christina Mosca singing solo.
The small stage on the Elizabeth Promenade on the shore of Lake Balaton and the Süss fel nap! stage on the Káptalanfüred Beach offer free programmes during the day and promenade concerts in the evenings. During the day, music workshops will be offered. The main stage performances will be held in the basement of the Magtár cultural institution, a special venue with a capacity of 300 people. Tickets will go on sale soon on the festival website.
