The „10 Months – 10 Challenges” programme of the European Capital of Culture programme entitled VEB2023, and the city’s institutions that had developed it were awarded at the annual Green Destinations Summit in Tallinn. The complex city-wide project, which was included in the TOP100 sustainability success stories, aimed to improve services, and raise awareness of sustainability among the local community and visiting tourists alike.
An important mission of the “10 Months – 10 Challenges” project was to provide the professionals of the institutions of Veszprém with up-to-date knowledge about the city’s attractions, the current state of tourist attractions, and the Veszprém-Balaton 2023 European Capital of Culture (ECC) programme, in order to ensure that incoming visitors are properly informed.
The programme year was preceded by a comprehensive tourism survey conducted among the cultural institutions of Veszprém. Based on the results, a package of programmes entitled „10 Months – 10 Challenges” was prepared and implemented consistently from February 2022 to November 2022 by these institutions.
The programme’s focus areas included institutional attraction and capacity building, awareness raising, knowledge sharing, online interfaces, ticketing, visitor management, sustainability, accessibility, and language skills.
The programme also included capacity building and awareness-raising events for the affected professionals between January and April 2022. Over the 13 sessions, the participation of 145 institutional colleagues laid the foundations for the success of the cultural programme year of 2023 and for the long-term achievements of the ECC project.
The Green Destinations TOP100 2023 competition was held for the 10th time in 2023, with a selection of the 100 entries that stand out from the rest in terms of efficiency, innovation, inspiration, and transferability.
