The closing day of the Egry 140 exhibition was originally supposed to be October 29, but the Laczkó Dezső Museum decided to extend the opening hours until February.
The Laczkó Dezső Museum was completely renovated by June 2023 as part of the Veszprém-Balaton 2023 European Capital of Culture programme and reopened to visitors on June 24. The exhibition of fine art Egry József 140 – Balaton, Sicily, Nervi was commissioned for the opening. This was the first exhibition to be organized in the renovated museum.
The exhibition was originally supposed to close on the last weekend of October, but the museum decided to give the people opportunity to view the exhibition during the winter period as well, so we will be able to see József Egry’s works until February 18.
Egry, who settled in Keszthely and then in Badacsony after the First World War, is primarily known as the painter of Lake Balaton, but he left behind a much more complex oeuvre. Thus, the exhibition does not only focus on the paintings of Lake Balaton, but also includes works created during the painter’s study trips to Italy. The backbone of the exhibition is the Egry collection of nearly 50 pieces from the museum’s fine art collection. Since the majority of Egry’s Italian paintings were directly owned in the 1930s, some of the exhibited works are borrowed from art collectors. Additional pictures of the exhibition came to Veszprém from the collections of museums in the capital and the countryside.
Even in the winter, the museum welcomes everyone with thematic guided tours and colourful accompanying programs from Tuesday to Sunday between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
