The 3rd International Schimmel Piano Competition, organized by the Wilhelm Schimmel Pianofortefabrik GmbH in Germany was held from 01 to 03 March 2024. The first prize was awarded to the Ukrainian pianist Anfisa Bobylova.
The competition is for pianists aged 18 to 32 who are currently undergoing or have completed professional musical training. In addition to the quality of the performance, the focus of the competition lies in the conception of the presented programme, which must follow a theme chosen by the participants.
After three thrilling days of competition, Anfisa Bobylova was awarded 1st prize, endowed with 6,000 euros. Bobylova’s concert geography stretches from Ukraine to the United States, and her extensive repertoire includes works from the Baroque to the Contemporary period and she is a prizewinner of over 20 international piano competitions. She has a rich concert experience that has allowed her to work with renowned conductors such as Mariusz Smolij, Andrea Barizza, Giuseppe Bruno, Yuriy Bervetskyi, Taras Martynyk or Sergiy Rabiychuck.
The 2nd prize was awarded to the 18-year old Elizabeth Goh from Singapore who studies in School of The Arts, Singapore (SOTA). She currently holds a DipABRSM Diploma in Piano Performance. Elizabeth entered SOTA in 2013 where she has studied under Timothy Ku, and currently under Lim Yan. She has also participated in numerous solo and collaborative masterclasses by renowned professors and musicians such as Pascal Roge, Min Kwon, and Aaron Shorr, to name a few. Apart from this, she has received numerous scholarships to overseas music programmes and has participated and won prizes in various local and international competitions for solo and chamber.
The 3rd prize was awarded to Tamta Magradze. The georgian pianist is the winner of more than ten international and national piano competitions. Highlights of her international festival engagements have included Delft Chamber Music Festival (Netherlands), Liszt Festival in Grottammare (Italy), Liszt Festival in Schloss Schilligsfürst (Germany). As a soloist, she appeared with orchestras including Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra, Jena Philharmonic Orchestra, Georgian Symphonietta, Thüringen Philharmonic Orchestra, Georgian Symphonic Orchestra, Győr Philharmonic Orchestra, and others.
The 3rd International Schimmel Piano Competition 2024 culminated in a spectacular prize-winners concert in the Schimmel Concert Hall on Sunday evening. Following the concert, the sought-after audience prize of 500 euros was awarded to Anfisa Bobylova.
