The European Capital of Culture’s Grand Opening has won a silver medal at Eventex Awards 2024, one of the world’s most important events and experience marketing events. The Opening Celebration ‘Shine!’, held on 21st January 2023, was one of 1207 events from 62 countries of 6 continents to win the award.
The Veszprém-Balaton region launched the European Capital of Culture programme year with light paintings, music, special choreographies and visual elements that were woven through the streets of Veszprém’s city centre, bringing to life the history, diversity and values of the city and the region.
The opening ceremony ‘Shine!’ was in competing with events staged by international companies including Lufthansa, L’Oreal, AUDI, Netflix and Toyota.
“This edition of Eventex Awards has seen a record-breaking number of entries, as well as record-breaking creativity and innovation — the industry is truly back with a bang. We have undoubtedly been wowed by outstanding events and experiences, ground-breaking technology and suppliers, as well as breathtaking venues. We have also seen remarkable inspiration from every corner of the globe, with new countries joining the Eventex Awards family each year, enriching the competition with their unique contribution — this diversity is one of the things that makes Eventex Awards truly exceptional. So, on behalf of the entire Eventex team, as well as personally, I would like to congratulate all winners!,” comments Ovanes Ovanessian, co-founder of Eventex Awards.
Two jury members gave the Grand Opening a score of 92 out of a maximum of 100. EVENTSBASE Event Director Judith Wilson appreciated the spectacle achieved despite the organisational difficulties. „A fabulous integration of different art forms, technology and various parts of the city. The logistical challenges were brilliantly overcome and a great show was put on, with incredible results.”
Imressed by the spectacle, David Bloch, Executive and Creative Director and Producer of David Bloch International, looks forward to visiting Hungary: „I can honestly say that the event gave me a wonderful warm feeling… even though all the participants were wearing thick padded jackets and caps in the winter cold. Coming from South Africa, of course, we rarely experience real snow, and so the snowfall, in my opinion, added a special glow to the event and made it even more wonderful and magical, undoubtedly highlighting its scenery and set design. Congratulations to the whole team!”
