As part of the Veszprém-Balaton 2023 European Capital of Culture programme, several festivals have been organised in 2023, which will continue to create a tradition for the Bakony-Balaton region.
The first event of the festival season was the Hungarian Cinema Festival from 12 to 15 June, which screened dozens of Hungarian films, from classics of the 1930s to the latest film premieres. The festival was open to film lovers in three locations, Balatonalmádi, Balatonfüred and Veszprém, both indoors and outdoors. The screenings were accompanied by professional talks, concerts, workshops and other programmes.
Between 28 and 30 June, one of the most colourful events on the northern shore of Lake Balaton, the Bondoró Festival, awaits children and adults for a weekend full of spectacle and excitement. Street theatre, puppet shows, fire jugglers, concerts and unusual new circus acts make the three days of the festival an unforgettable experience.

On the first weekend of July, Keszthely will once again host the KeszthelyFest, with free programmes ranging from concerts and dance performances to gastronomic adventures. Stars and bands such as Majka, Neoton Família and Bikini will take the stage over the three days.
If you are looking for a truly extraordinary experience, this year’s INOTA Festival is not to be missed! This time the festival will be called INOTA Focus: TURBINACSARNOK and will offer new wave music and visual experiences on 12 and 13 July at the Inotá power plant, but this time not in the entire factory. For these two days, unconventional techno and boundary-pushing electronics will be performed in the 6,000 square metre glass-brick turbine hall, which 50 years ago was still generating electricity but today is the biggest music party venue in the region’s festival history.

When visiting the Lake Balaton and Bakony area, don’t miss Veszprém’s summer events, with festivals such as VeszprémFest from 17 to 20 July, Rozé, Rizling and Jazz Days from 12 to 21 July, and the Utcazene Festival from 24 to 27 July. This year, you can also immerse yourself in the beauty of classical music at the Veszprém Early Music Days and the Auer Festival, which pays tribute to the violinist Lipót Auer. And for a huge community picnic around a table that stretches for a kilometre and a half, the Long Table Picnic in Veszprém Valley on 23 June will feature jugglers, magicians, showmen and musicians, alongside a wide range of delicious food and drink.
