Renowned Italian conductor Maestro Riccardo Frizza will join the Hungarian Radio Art Groups as principal conductor from September 2022, alongside President-Conductor Tamás Vásáry and permanent conductor János Kovács.
The new conductor will work with the ensembles four times over two extended periods. Riccardo Frizza welcomed the invitation, saying: “I think very highly of Hungarian musicians. Whenever I come to Budapest, I always have a great time. It is my undisguised goal that under my leadership the Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra will become the most outstanding symphony orchestra in Europe.”
His relationship with the Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra began in 2017. The joint work was highly appreciated by both parties, and the board of the Hungarian Radio Art Groups asked him to take up the position of principal conductor.
Riccardo Frizza will conduct the groups four times next season, but the public will also see him at the helm of the Hungarian Radio Art Groups on Thursday evening, 24 March, at the Palace of Arts Budapest, conducting Mahler’s Symphony No. 2, “Resurrection”. The concert will be broadcast live on Bartók Radio.
