From students to diplomats, many foreigners live in Hungary, and even though they are specifically open to news about Hungarian cultural life and cultural programmes, yet sporadically do they get relevant information in English. Papageno’s new English-language column is for them.

Unfortunately, we cannot translate into English the almost 100 articles and interviews published in a week on the Hungarian Papageno website; however, an English-language column updated several times a week is more than can be accessed on the internet.

Our focus will be on the stories and events of Hungarian relevance — there is no point in writing articles of what we have read in the Guardian. This column is meant not only for those foreigners who live here; we certainly hope that the English version of Papageno will over time become such a reference point for the results and successes of Hungarian cultural life at the international level as the Hungarian-language site was able to become in a relatively short time for Hungarian readers.
