Young pianist Krisztián Kocsis, son of Zoltán Kocsis, has decided to create a public YouTube channel called Zoltán Kocsis Archive, in which he wants to make his father’s legacy available.
“Concert recordings, news footage, documentaries, werkfilms, interviews, TV appearances: everything will be available in one place, in a transparent and searchable way”, said Krisztián Kocsis, who added that “before my father’s death in 2016, he entrusted me, both verbally and in his will, with the task of being the careful guardian of his legacy and ensuring that the enormous musical and intellectual heritage he left behind is not eroded by the ravages of time.
It is a little known fact that a digital archive would have been the pillar of the Zoltán Kocsis Memorial House and Cultural Centre, repeatedly promised by the government, but irrevocably rejected in February 2021, in which all the film footages (and music recordings) of my father’s musical career and civic engagement activities, collected for his own use, would have been processed and then made available to the public, as my father wished.
This huge amount of material takes up several hard disks of storage space, and practically covers and summarizes the period from about 1970 to 2016, during which Dad was active in the international and Hungarian music scene, and with which he secured his place among the greatest Hungarian classical music performers forever.
I would like to make up for this shortcoming now by creating a YouTube channel called Zoltán Kocsis Archive, in which I will update this unique legacy and publish it for music lovers, the ‘Kocsis fans’, so that those who just want to be nostalgic will find plenty to like as well.”
