This is the second time that the Hungarian cinematographer has been shortlisted for a TV award, similarly to last year, for an episode of the TV series Euphoria. The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences announced the nominees for this year’s Emmy Awards on 12 July.
Rév Marcell, who also produced White God, Jupiter’s Moon and The Story of My Wife, among others, was nominated last year for an episode of the HBO series Euphoria (Trouble Don’t Last Always), and this year he was nominated for Outstanding Cinematography for a Single-Camera Series (One Hour) for another episode of the series, The Theater And Its Double. The 74th Emmy Awards will be held on 12 September and the technical awards will be presented on 3 and 4 September.
Other nominees in Rév’s category include Loki, Ozark, Squid Game, The Marvellous Mrs. Maisel and an episode of the Victory Series: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty. Euphoria was nominated in 16 categories this year, including Zendaya for Best Actress in a Leading Role. Euphoria did not win in 2021, but in 2020 it won three Emmy Awards: Outstanding Contemporary Makeup, Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics, and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.
The most nominations this year were collected by another HBO series, the third season of The Descendants, with 25 nominations in total. The drama about a wealthy family received 14 nominations in the acting categories alone, beating the record of 12 for All The President’s Men at the time.
