308 young musicians from 56 countries on five continents applied to the 2nd Zoltán Kodály International Music Competition from 20-28 August, where conductors will compete this year. The live rounds can be followed on Papageno and Kodály Philharmonia and the official competition website.
The applicants – who include conductors from Venezuela, Morocco, Estonia, Indonesia, Kazakhstan and New Zealand – participated in a video pre-selection before the three-round competition to find out who will be invited to the live competition.
As part of the Zoltán Kodály International Music Competition, held for the second time, the young conductors will unusually conduct orchestral and several oratorio pieces. One of the main reasons for this is that the 100th anniversary of the Kodály Philharmonic Orchestra this year coincides with the centenary of the Psalmus Hungaricus, on which occasion the orchestra’s old wish will come true: the organization of an oratorio conducting competition in Debrecen
The rounds of the competition, which can be visited free of charge, take place in the Great Hall of the Kölcsey Center in Debrecen, and the final event of the competition (Award Ceremony and Gala Concert) will also take place in the Kölcsey Center on August 28, for which registration tickets can be purchased by clicking here.
