In the second edition of the Zoltán Kodály International Music Competition, the young conductors conduct not only orchestral pieces, but also a number of oratorio pieces. One of the main reasons for this is that the 100th anniversary of the Kodály Philharmonic Orchestra coincides with the centenary of the Psalmus Hungaricus, which is the occasion for the orchestra to fulfill its long-standing wish to organize an oratorio conducting competition in Debrecen.
The international jury of seven is chaired by a true legend, the 92-year-old Jorma Panula.
The members of the jury are:
- János Ács (Italy/Hungary),
- Peter Broadbent (UK)
- Remy Franck (Luxembourg)
- Zsolt Hamar (Hungary)
- Oksana Madarash (Ukraine)
- Imre Kollár (Hungary)
The rounds of the competition, which are free of charge, take place in the Great Hall of the Kölcsey Centre, while the final event (Awards Ceremony and Gala Concert) will also take place in the Kölcsey Centre on 28 August, with registration tickets available for 500 HUF.
